Who We Are

Lamplight Learning was founded with a clear purpose: to deliver compassionate, high-quality education that empowers care teams to feel confident, capable, and supported in the work they do. Led by Helen Shepherd, a registered nurse and experienced educator, our approach blends clinical expertise with empathy and flexibility — tailoring every session to the real-world needs of staff, organisations, and the people they care for.

About Helen

Helen is a Registered Nurse, qualified teacher and palliative care educator. Her commitment to compassionate, person-centred end-of-life care has been shaped by years of hands-on experience supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult moments. While her clinical background also includes roles in acute medical and intensive care settings, it is in palliative care where Helen has developed her greatest expertise and professional passion.

Her clinical expertise led her into the role of a Palliative Care Clinical Educator, supporting multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care across a range of environments and then onto higher education having worked for three UK universities delivering nurse education. She is also a qualified teacher, holding a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PgCert HE), a Certificate in Education (Post-14), and a qualification in online education, enabling her to design and deliver accessible, engaging learning across both in-person and digital platforms.

Helen has delivered training and education across a range of settings, including care homes, nursing homes, community environments, and non-clinical teams such as coroners’ services. She specialises not only in palliative care but also in reflective practice, supporting teams to process complex experiences, build emotional resilience, and enhance the quality of care they provide

Through Lamplight Learning, Helen now offers training and tailored education programmes to support care providers in delivering safe, confident, and compassionate care. She is committed to raising the standard of palliative care and empowering staff with the knowledge and confidence to make a real difference.
