Client: A Coroner’s team
Topic: An introduction to Reflective Practice
Format: Bespoke group training session

The Brief
The coroner’s office approached Helen with a clear and sensitive need: support with emotional resilience across their multidisciplinary team. The group included coroners, coroners officers and administrative staff, each regularly exposed to the emotional demands of death investigations. The team sought a practical and supportive space to process the impact of their work and strengthen their collective wellbeing.
Approach
Helen developed and delivered a bespoke session titled Reflective Practice for Resilience. The training introduced the group to simple, evidence-informed models of reflection, focusing on how structured reflection can build resilience, support emotional regulation, and enhance team cohesion.
The session featured:
A short, accessible introduction to reflective practice in emotionally demanding roles. An introduction to a reflective model.
Small group reflections using the reflective model
Facilitated discussions to explore shared experiences, emotional responses, and support strategies
A psychologically safe and inclusive environment to encourage openness across all roles
The Outcome
The session was received very positively. Participants described it as “much needed” and “valuable,” particularly appreciating the opportunity to reflect together in a non-judgemental space. The combination of structure and emotional safety enabled team to speak candidly, support one another, and consider practical ways to carry reflective practice forward in their work.
“This is the first time we’ve taken a moment to pause and really talk about the impact of our work. I think we all needed this more than we realised.”
